This position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in the areas of energy and environmental research and development. The EERC is looking for a scientist or engineer who has an active interest in designing and developing power systems that use biomass and coal. The EERC is looking for an engineer or scientist with some design or process experience that could assist research projects aimed at efficient and low-cost conversion of coal or biomass to heat, electricity, and synthetic gas for potential conversion to fuel. Specific assignments may include designing processes and creating engineering drawings for equipment and processes related to gasification and pyrolysis of coal or biomass. Process design will be aimed at optimizing syngas chemistry and developing purification methods, plus designing and devising thermocatalytic reactors for conversion of syngas and thermochemical process products to energy fuels, and chemicals. The position will also involve providing engineering support on a variety of advanced pilot systems for testing and developing alternative fuels and energy forms. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Create databases, develop complex queries, views, triggers and functions for various applications and processes. Develop and maintain existing reports using Crystal Reports and other products. Create dashboards utilizing pivot tables and cube analysis within Excel. Maintain and monitor scheduled database jobs. Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary changes. Perform periodic system audits. Research and implement new technologies to improve business processes. Work with the Marketing Department to utilize new technology to enhance web site functionality. Serve as resource to provide training for student web designers. Assist in development and planning of new databases. Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as creating interfaces between programs to share data. Applications may include: THD, Odyssey, Micro’s, Application Extender, Dining Database, CS Gold, PeopleSoft. Serve as the main point of contact for all database applications. DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The duties of the position will include evaluating existing phased array radar systems exploring trade-offs between different radar system designs for the purpose of risk mitigation involving unmanned aircraft, and providing technical and engineering system maintenance for phased array radar systems and dual-polarimetric Doppler radar systems. Radar duties include systematic calibration checks, radar upgrades, hardware maintenance, troubleshooting when problems arise, system administration of radar computers, and assisting with radar operations when necessary. Essential functions: Conduct Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) research in relation to phased array radar systems. Evaluate existing phased array radar systems. Maintain radar systems used in UA risk mitigation as well as atmospheric science applications. Prepare technical notes and technical reports associated with research activities. Lead Operations Analyst for command and control of the Agricultural Camera, a multispectral, UND-built instrument to be launched on the International Space Station in Fall 2008. Recruit train, and manage a student team of operators. Follow NASA protocols and procedures and develop online operational planning products. Direct commanding efforts to acquire ground imagery in response to end user (farmers, ranchers, educators) requests. The Database Administration team is responsible for operational activities related to the administration of computerized databases, including their definition, organization, security, efficiency, and documentation. The DBA team reviews, installs, tests, tunes, and customizes when necessary databases or database-related software. The DBA team is expected to keep up with new technology and look for ways it can be implemented to enhance our environment. The position will involve providing engineering support on a variety of advanced pilot systems for testing and developing hydrogen generation technologies and emission control technologies. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
This position has two components: outreach for the medical and health programs of UND, and assistant librarian for the Medcenter One Health Library in Bismarck. The position is located at Medcenter One in Bismarck. Responsibilities for outreach include: provide library user education services to UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) faculty, residents, and students on the Southwest Clinical Campus in Bismarck, including curriculum-related bibliographic and information retrieval instruction. Develop and deliver library outreach services to UND SMHS clinical faculty, residents, and students and UND College of Nursing students and faculty in the southwest quadrant of the state. Develop and deliver library outreach services to non-affiliated health professionals in the southwest quadrant of the state, including instruction in locating and effectively utilizing information resources for patient care. Promote the use of library and electronic resources to health consumers through partnerships with public libraries, community-based organizations, and other organizations. Assist in developing content for the website of the UND Library of the Health Sciences. Responsibilities for the Medcenter One Health Library include: provide reference and information services to clientele of the Medcenter One Health Library, including literature searching and research assistance. Assist in managing circulation services, acquisitions, maintenance of the print and electronic collections, and cataloging.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in library or information science from an American Library Association accredited program

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
This position is located at the Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research and development. The EERC is looking for an engineer or scientist with strong design experience, who also has an active interest in fossil or renewable energy production technologies and who is interested in pursuing an exciting, fast-paced research position. This individual would work for a project manager or principal investigator and contribute to the success of projects that could include process engineering and design as related to conversion of coal or biomass to fuels, chemicals, and energy. Specific assignments may include designing processes and creating engineering drawings for equipment and processes related to gasification and pyrolysis of coal or biomass. Process design will be aimed at optimizing syngas chemistry and developing purification methods, plus designing and devising thermocatalytic reactors for conversion of syngas and thermochemical process products to fuels and chemicals. The position will also involve providing engineering support on a variety of advanced pilot systems for testing and developing alternative fuels and energy forms. The successful candidate would support these development efforts by performing the following essential functions: contributing both to the design and hands-on fabrication of experimental equipment and overseeing or operating that equipment, helping to prepare research proposals, interpreting data, writing reports and papers, presenting project results to clients, and presenting papers at national and international conferences.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The EERC has several openings for individuals with demonstrated interest or experience in process chemistry, engineering and chemical synthesis as related to developing advanced catalytic technology and thermochemical conversion technologies for coal or other hydrocarbons such as biomass to fuels and chemicals. These positions will involve the design and operation of bench-, pilot-, and demonstration-scale experiments, process scale-up, and determining commercialization pathways of processes and process improvements. The researchers will prepare proposals, manage projects, interact with industry and government organizations to promote research projects and garner support, direct cutting-edge research including concept development and demonstration, write technical reports and papers, and give formal technical presentations. In addition, the work will include preparation of technical reports and journal articles, presentations at national and international technical meetings and to clients, and the independent preparation of research proposals to both government and commercial funding sources. Some travel will be required.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
Requires the minimum of a bachelors degree in engineering or chemistry. Must have experience or a strong interest in the area of fuel development from a variety of feedstock. Requires the ability to generate ideas for fuel process development and expertise in one or more of the following: chemical process development and scale-up. Catalytic process development, thermal analysis, extraction and analysis or organic mixtures, analytical methods development, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics and chromatography. Requires experience in writing winning proposals, performing successful experiments and managing projects. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Requires experience in writing technical reports and papers, presenting research findings and interacting with fellow researchers and business clients. Functions of the position include working with hydrogen systems, renewable fuels, advanced energy systems, and emission measurement and control. Work will include designing and building experimental systems, planning and conducting experimental tests, conceptual process design, data reduction, and preparing and presenting technical reports. Occasional shift work, field testing, and travel are required.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
Requires a B.S. or M.S. degree in chemical or similar engineering, chemistry or equivalent. Will consider candidates who meet education requirements prior to start date. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. This position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research and technology commercialization, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. The EERC is looking for a self-motivated, experienced, and market-oriented senior engineer or scientist with experience managing technical projects and personnel. The position will oversee current projects and build future programs in one or more areas related to the production of heat, electricity, motor vehicle and jet fuels, hydrogen, and chemicals using both fossil-based (i.e., coal, gas, methanol, etc.) or renewable (biomass, ethanol) feedstocks in advanced conversion systems. These managers must contribute to the success of the EERC by performing the following essential functions: preparing proposals to both government and commercial funding sources; interacting with industry and government organizations; managing research program areas, projects, and personnel; writing technical reports and papers; giving formal technical presentations; and supervising research personnel. Some travel will be required.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent degree in combination with scientific or engineering training that brings expertise to managing projects in energy production and emission control. Advanced degrees are preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience is required in the broad topic areas that include advanced conversion and environmental control technologies as related to the production of heat, electricity, transportation fuels, and hydrogen and other chemicals using fossil fuels or biomass. Experience in proposal presentation and a proven record of obtaining government or commercial funding for research findings are essential. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Candidates must show a strong ability in writing technical reports and papers and an interest and ability in conducting oral presentation to market and publicize research results and technologies. Prefer candidates with work-related experience in oil refining, biomass or coal conversion to power and chemicals and advanced systems for hydrogen production.
